Subject:Research help needed! Monkee fans?
Posted by:charisma.
Time:6:48 pm.
Mood: hopeful.
If any of you happen to be Monkees fans, please take a moment to fill out all or part of this survey . I'm particularly looking for firsthand accounts of those who attended the Monkees 20th anniverary tour. It plays a part in my novel, and I'd like to get some good details researched before I begin.

Also, if anyone would like to see the novel in progress , please feel free to join summerslast as I will be writing it there and posting friends only. This is the method that brought me success in 2006 (you can still read my complete 2006 novel by joining tequila_sunset)

Anyone else do their writing publicly? Let me know and I'll join up to read your projects, too!

Subject:Writing Contest
Posted by:freakwolf.
Time:2:56 pm.
My friend Mike is in a writing contest and needs your help. It is a contest I should be in but am way to lazy to actually write ANYTHING. The contest is for people with a finished manuscript. You put up your first chapter and people read it and rate it. The competition moves on and you put up your second chapter. People read it and rate it. and so on and so on. Anyway I have read the entire book Mike has written and it is a FANTASTIC read. So head over and rate Mike's first chapter and help him get further in the competition. I know he would appreciate it.

Subject:The Road to Salvation - a multimedia serial story by Laura Cushing
Posted by:charisma.
Time:10:24 pm.
Mood: good.

If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, what paves the way to salvation?

Orville Deacon, the charismatic televangelist who hosts The Road to Salvation, has been embroiled in a scandal of epic proportions. Sex, drugs, and inappropriate use of donations - he's accused of it all. In the midst of the investigation, he commits suicide - leaving behind his wife Mary and their four sons - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The story is told primarily from the perspective of the four brothers as they search to redefine their lives in the light of their father's suicide, and his secret life they never knew.

This exciting drama, as told by Laura Cushing, will unfold through a variety of media - journal entries, newspaper clippings, audio clips, music, and photography.

Join us on The Road to Salvation- the story starts soon!

Woohoo! I just have to say that this community was a huge help in staying motivated. Reading everyone's posts about working through writer's block, frustration and all of the helpful suggestions really made this year a lot easier.

For those of you who are still writing, keep it up!

Mood: Whew!.

I'm am so pumped up right now I can't hardly see straight. What a rush it's been, from the week one slack (I've got a whole month? That's plenty of time!) to the week two crush (I can just add to next week's quota, right?) to the week three marathons (This word count can't be right! Okay, no more contractions from me!) and the week four panic (omgomgomg, I hate my novel I'll never finish in time and my damn countdown widget failed, AUGH!)

I'm done with ONE of the hard parts now. Back to getting my schoolwork done on time, back to using hyphens and contractions, and looking towards a massive rewrite. What have I DONE!!

Congrats to all the winners out there, and that includes everyone who gave it a try!

Subject:I am done!
Posted by:thatgaychick.

Mood: chipper.

People have asked why I would subject myself to this kind of madness. Writing 50,000 words in a span on 30 days? Well, I originally wrote my first NaNo in 2001. I wrote another in 2002. Then life happened. This year, I wanted to pick up the torch again.

Little did I know that non-fiction doesn't count towards NaNo, but I didn't find that out (buried deep in the forums mind you) until yesterday. So I still count myself as a winner.

I wanted to write a novel about my life. About what makes me, well me. The premise was based up those stupid memes we've all taken and posted to our blogs at one point or another..

I may not go to print with this one (although I should have with the ones from 2001 and 2002! Too bad I put them online first) but it was good to write it. Memories, most bad but some good, were forced out of my head and onto a white page.

I actually enjoy writing for the sake of writing. NaNoWriMo, to me, is an exercise. It's a challenge. And I think it's fun. Sure, it's stressful, but what's life without a little stress?.

I had the wedding planning taking up my days for so long. NaNo filled that void for a bit. And now, now it's onto the next thing.

What the next thing is, I'm not sure. There are a lot of "next things" in line at the moment. But such is life. Today though, I am going to concentrate on the validity of that one word:

.

"Winner." Because all too often in my life, I don't do that enough.

A day early even!!

I hit 50,277 words to finish. The end was awkward, but it's done, and I can rework it later. I think I WILL rework this one; it might have something in it worth the attention.

Mood: ecstatic.
I JUST HIT 40K!!!!!!!!!!!! And I still have ten minutes to go until midnight! After I posted that last post I...messed around for a while. *blush* I didn't get typing until 11:20, so I did that in 35 minutes! One thousand words in 35 minutes...I amaze myself. If I did that all through this, I'd have been done long before!
Ten thousand left to go...I wonder if I can make my plot stretch (it's doing good so far; I'm...very happy!) or if it'll excede 50k. I'm hoping it'll excede!

(My dad can't say I won't win, now!)

Made it to 40K today; if I can do another 3K tomorrow I will be back on track. I spent several hours sitting next to the wood stove, poking the fire, and tapping REALLY HARD with my left thumb; my space key is sticking. Annoying, but I can just pretend I am back to typing on that manual Underwood I learned on, or maybe the Selectrics they had in typing class in school (yes, this was before "keyboarding").

The amazing thing is that I STILL like what I am writing!!

Subject:The Plan!
Posted by:ex_kiiabby684.
Time:7:31 am.
The Plan for today is to get to 30k- and beyond! I didn't have time to write yesterday, so I have 2500 words to make up extra... oh and a few extra from the day before... :s means I need to write 6000 words to get back on track! Oh noes!

*cheers everyone on*

Edit:

here is something interesting I thought about whilst reviewing the new Foo Fighters DVD this morning. The crowd at the concert is 85,000 people and you can't see the back row from the stage! That really put into perspective how much 50,000 words is- imagine every word you have written is a person stood at a concert...

Dunno, it put into perspective a little how much 50,000 is for me! :o

Okay, so I'm almost at 30k which is good, right? I thought so too except I'm this far through and still don't feel like I have a good visualization of the characters in my head. My passed attempts at this have been easy because the stories I was writing were loosely based on ideas that I was already familiar with. It just getting to the point where the fact that I don't know what my own characters look like is extremely distracting. Has anyone had to deal with this before or does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a better image of what their characters look like?
